Giggley Japan Representative Ria Nogami (Naradate) Profile

Ria Nogami started learning Japanese traditional dance at a young age and, at the age of 19, obtained the title of “Natori” , certified as a master dancer and became a certified instructor( Ae Fujima) in the Fujima school.

While studying Japanese culture, she had a strong desire to explore the world, leading her to study abroad in the United States in 1982. She graduated from Dakota State College (now Dakota State University) in South Dakota. After graduatingon, Ria worked at JTB in New York, arranging technical visit tours to the USA from Japan, providing interpretation, and working as a translator.

Realizing the limitations of relying solely on English language, she decided to learn French and headed to Paris for language studies. After completing her language studies and becoming proficient in French, she worked at JALPAK in Brussels, Belgium. She was later transferred to the London office. In 1989, she founded and served as the representative of the language-specialized publishing company “ALC press”, in London office. She introduced prestigious British and Swiss schools to Japan and Taiwan started support services for accepting international students, and was also involved in English education.

Based on her experience in the UK, Ria strongly believed that “English education in Japan is indispensable” and she established Giggley Ltd in the UK and successfully acquired the Japanese franchise of “Tumble Tots” , designed by the representative coach of the British Olympic gymnastics team, which her eldest daughter was attending at that time. Subsequently, in 2002, she founded Giggley Japan and opened two schools in Tokyo and Yokohama. She also launched the “Giggley English School,” dedicated to advancing English education in Japan.

In 2006, Ria moved to Singapore due to her spouse’s job transfer. While managing the Japanese schools remotely, she founded Giggley Singapore and engaged in interpretation, translation, and business negotiation work.

In 2013, she moved to Indonesia and sold her Japanese school to a subsidiary of “ALC press” due to difficulty managing a school remotely from Indonesia where the infrastructure was not yet in place. During her stay in Indonesia, she dedicated herself to mastering the Indonesian language and served as the president of the local volunteer organization “Indonesian Heritage Society” . She led a diverse group of approximately 600 multinational volunteers from 50 countries, gaining valuable insights into negotiation strategies across different nationalities and in Indonesia.

Returning to Japan in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Ria now resides in Yokohama. Leveraging her extensive and diverse international experiences (including America, Europe, and Asia) and her language proficiency, she passionately operates her business based on the motto of “Assist, Nurture, and Connect” people and continues to travel the world.

Ria is married and has two daughters and one son. She holds a TESOL certification (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).
